Questions

Questions we hear

Short answers. Call us if yours is not here.

How long will a roof last in the Valley?

It depends on the material and on how the roof was put on. Clay and concrete tile usually outlast asphalt shingles here, and the South Texas sun wears shingles faster than their label suggests. We look at what condition your roof is in, not only how old it is, and tell you what we see.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof?

In most Valley cities a re-roof needs one. We tell you at the visit whether yours does, and your written estimate says who pulls it.

What does the estimate include?

Tear-off and disposal, a deck check, underlayment, flashing, ridge, cleanup, and the warranty terms in writing. The estimate page lists every item and what is priced as an extra.

What if you find rotten wood after the old roof comes off?

Your estimate states a price for each sheet of replacement decking before we start. A surprise is then a number you already agreed to, and the only thing that can change is how many sheets.

Can you put a new roof over the old one?

Sometimes, but we usually advise against it. Texas building code limits a re-cover when there are already two layers or the old roof is wet, and a second layer hides the deck problems we would want to see. We check at the visit and tell you.

Do I need to be home for the visit?

Not for the roof. We call before we arrive and look at it from the yard and the ladder. We only need you if you want the attic checked from inside.

Who speaks Spanish?

Araceli, Marco and Natalia speak Spanish and English. Most of the roofers on the crew speak Spanish, and a few speak only Spanish, so Marco translates on the roof when it helps. Tell us which you prefer when you call.

How do I send photos of my roof?

Text or WhatsApp them to (956) 555-0100 with your address. Photos from the ground are enough to start. Please do not climb up to take them.

Can I cancel after I sign?

If you sign at home, you may have three business days to cancel. Your contract says how and where to send the notice.

Can you tarp my roof today?

If water is coming in, call or message us and say so. The first crew that is free puts a tarp on, and we tell you the price before they leave. Nights and Sundays are billed at an overtime rate.

Insurance and storms

About insurance and storms

Will my insurance pay for a new roof?

That is between you and your insurer, and policies differ. Many have a separate wind and hail deductible, so ask yours. We can inspect, photograph and write an itemized estimate for you to share. We never promise what an insurer will pay.

Will you meet my insurance adjuster?

If you ask us to, yes. We can be at the roof when the adjuster visits and show what we photographed. We do not negotiate your claim.

Does hail always mean a new roof?

No. Often the damage is a few tiles or shingles, and we say so. We write down what we find, with photos, and you decide.

How do I tell a local roofer from a storm chaser?

Look for an address in the Valley you can visit, a phone that gets answered, a written contract and no pressure to sign the same day. Texas law bars roofers from paying, waiving or absorbing your deductible, so one who offers to is breaking it.
